The overall beauty and atmosphere of the area continues to bring out the best in today’s talented artists and writers as they strive to emulate their predecessors.  High on the region’s list of writers and poets were ‘The Lake Poets’ – William Wordsworth who was born in Cockermouth and who attended Hawkshead Grammar School, Coleridge and Robert Southey.  Their works will always continue to be popular but, of course visitors in search of gifts at Graham’s of Hawkshead have an insatiable appetite for the works and gift ideas surrounding one particular writer and all time favourite with both children and adults:-

Beatrix Potter.  Born in London, she moved here at an early age and became a very able hill farmer and dedicated conservationist at her Hill Top Farm at Sawrey.  She married local solicitor William Heelis (*his office was here in Hawkshead) in 1913 and her love of the countryside and it’s animal life stirred her imagination as she created all-time children’s favourite characters such as:-

  • Peter Rabbit
  • Jemima Puddleduck
  • Tommy Brock
  • Jeremy Fisher
  • Mrs Tiggy-winkle

At Graham’s we always have in stock an impressive range of Beatrix Potter books and similarly themed gifts, ensuring that your already memorable visit to Hawkshead is destined to become quite unforgettable.
